My Keynote Address

I recently gave a few keynotes related to FLOOC, open and flexible learning, Technology Enhanced Learning etc.

Keynote Address for International University Carnival On E-Learning (IUCEL 2018).
Educators 4.0 are currently attempting to integrate technology into the classroom, in order to humanise their use. The strategies that have been adopted, however, are primarily logistical and ignore the philosophy and values that underpins this technology. In this presentation, Nurkhamimi describes how the education ecosystem has become ineffective by not adapting the students' preferences, learning styles, perspectives and background. He believes that the future education will be dominated by the values and cosmopolitan thought and everyone in every field, including education, is required to have 4C, namely Concept, Competence,Connection, and Confidence. Thus the Education 4.0 should not been tailored based on the mastery of advanced science and technology alone, but also the understanding and mastery of basic and solid moral values, which is called technohumanistic approach.

Keynote Address for 25th International Conference on Psychology & Language Research, Kuala Lumpur 2017.
We would like to propose 21st Century Foreign Language Open Online Course (FLOOC)  approach that will be useful to develop and support the foreign languages blended learning especially in non-native learners’ context. In light of these prospects, the presentation will describe the appropriate design principles for FLOOC design and development. This would substantially benefit foreign language learners and could help them obtain literacy skills and attain their potential.

Keynote Address for 24th International Conference on Psychology & Language Research, Singapore 2017.
As an instructional technology advocate and teaching Arabic as a second language (ASL) lecturer, I became hooked on flipped learning the minute I first heard about it. After all, it made all the sense in the world to embrace this approach to teaching and learning within the context of teaching Arabic as a second language.
Arabic lecturers often complain about the fact that they are expected to cover everything in the textbook, which severely limits the amount of time they can spend on communicative tasks. Furthermore some of their larger Arabic courses frequently had more than 200 students in the classroom. They wanted new teaching strategies that would help students to understand course material and remain engaged in class. Lectures and tutorials already incorporated activities, so “FLIPARABIC” which is flipping Arabic classrooms was the next logical step.

Keynote Address for International Malaysian Educational Technology Convention 2017.
Several higher education institutions in Malaysia have joined the OER movement. However, there is not yet widespread understanding about OER and open licences due to the lack of specific guidelines. In Malaysia, the National eLearning Policy (DePAN 2.0) focuses on open courseware, and it is important to develop specific guidelines for the same. With the support of the Commonwealth of Learning, the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia revivify the OER ecosystem in Malaysia by organising a national consultation to develop draft guidelines that may be adopted by the appropriate education ministries in Malaysia.

• ODL is moving towards the establishment of the Uber University
•Uber university is a concept where we consider the learners as riders and lecturers as driver and the world as the classroom.
•In Uber university, students are not learning the knowledge from the lecturers only (hierarchy), but they will cooperate and build a learning community with other students, educators and professionals from various institutions (wirerarchy).

•Instructional Technology is a comparatively new field dedicated to applying what is empirically understood about how humans learn and improve upon performance to the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of learning and performance support products, processes, and environments. Instructional technologists understand and leverage technologies as both product (such as a Web-based course for distant learners or print-based job-aids for the workplace) and process (such as an iterative and formative approach to learner assessment). Instructional technologists practice their unique, multidisciplinary profession in a variety of settings including industry, K-12 schools and higher education.
